VendPrint Access Manager (VAM):
VendPrint Access Manager allows institutions
to grant workstation access in a predictable,
friendly and fair method. When used in conjunction
with a library automation system, VAM can
also be used to automatically grant or deny
workstation access based on criteria of
your choosing. Common criteria for denying
workstation
access includes: Overdue fines, prior violation
of your internet usage policy, or even age
considerations. With VendPrint Access
Manager you can:
- Enable
users to schedule computer usage in advance
- Insure fair and equitable use of public computers with no staff intervention
- Notify patrons of approximate wait times during busy periods
- Automatically extend patron sessions if nobody is waiting
- Randomly
assignment of computers to discourage
disruptive “clustering” of
patrons
- Automatically deny workstation usage to patrons with fines or overdue
books
- Free up staff time to focus on patron services, not allocating workstation
time
- Reports can allow for reallocation of resources for maximum utilization
- Closing
Time allows even greater predictability for the patrons, giving
ample warnings to save work and print as needed because
the library will be closing soon
VAM uses a patron and workstation database
to keep track of patrons, active
users, and reservations. All of the information that governs the computer
scheduling is stored in the database, and
each system software component accesses
and
updates
the database as activities occur and time elapses. A log file of reservations,
times of use and no-shows is written, and if desired, can include patron
information, (some libraries do not want the log to include patron information
for privacy
reasons).
